6. Explicit and Fluent Waits
Explicit and Fluent waits in Selenium WebDriver make your tests more reliable by pausing until certain conditions are met before moving on to the next steps.
Explicit waits are used to pause the execution until a certain condition is met or a maximum time has elapsed. This is useful when you need to wait for dynamic elements to appear on the page or for some operation to complete.
7. Executing JavaScript in Selenium WebDriver
Executing JavaScript directly within the browser using Selenium WebDriver enables you to manipulate the webpage, interact with elements, and retrieve information not accessible via WebDriver’s standard commands. This is useful for performing actions beyond WebDriver’s capabilities and customizing webpage behavior as needed.
8. Handling Multiple Windows and Tabs
Handling multiple windows and tabs in Selenium WebDriver is essential for applications that use pop-ups or multi-tab navigation. Selenium WebDriver offers methods to manage various browser contexts to enable automated interaction across multiple windows and tabs seamlessly.
You can switch between browser windows using methods like window_handles to retrieve handles for all open windows, and switch_to.window(handle) to switch focus to a specific window using WebDriver. This allows for smooth interaction and validation of elements across different browser contexts.
9. Advanced User Interactions
Selenium WebDriver supports complex user interactions like drag-and-drop, double-clicking, right-clicking, and hovering. These advanced interactions are essential for testing rich user interfaces that rely on dynamic elements. WebDriver’s Actions class provides a way to build and perform these complex actions to simulate real-world user behavior accurately. This feature ensures that all interactive elements of an application are tested thoroughly and verified that they respond correctly to different types of user input.
10. Capturing Screenshots
Selenium WebDriver can take screenshots of the browser’s current view. It is helpful for debugging and documentation. This feature helps testers see problems and understand how the application looks at any time.
Screenshots can be captured at any point during the testing process and saved for later use. This makes troubleshooting easier and provides detailed reports. It’s useful for capturing how web pages look including layout issues, visual changes, and unexpected errors.
11. Handling Cookies
Selenium WebDriver can manage browser cookies, which is crucial for testing user sessions and maintaining state across different pages. This includes adding, deleting, and retrieving cookies, enabling testers to simulate user sessions, and testing authentication mechanisms.
Managing cookies helps ensure that the application correctly handles user-specific data and session persistence. This feature is essential for applications that rely on cookies for functionality, such as maintaining login states, user preferences, and tracking information across multiple visits.
